Future Wood Green Voted into Existence

Following a month long ballot of the 340 eligible businesses in Wood Green, a YES vote has been returned. A comfortable majority of 84% of businesses voted in favour of Wood Green having a Business Improvement District.  Future Wood Green will formally begin its operations in July 2018. The 5 year business plan looks to make advances in safety and security, empower the evening economy, liven up the visual appeal of the high-street, hold events and attract new businesses to the area. Thank you to everyone who voted!

The chair of the Future Wood Green steering group was delighted about the result and the prospect of the next 5 years of change:

“This is a unique opportunity for Wood Green businesses to address some real and significant issues facing us and ensure a strong business environment for the future. I have no doubt the BID will make a real difference, improving Wood Green’s image and helping business growth.

The BID would not have happened without a huge amount of support from a variety of organisations. While it’s important to say this is absolutely a totally independent initiative for businesses by businesses, my thanks also go to Haringey Council for aiding the opportunity. Also thanks go to all members of the Steering Group who have given so much of their time and effort and to our advisers – The Means, who have guided the process throughout.

This is the beginning of an exciting journey for Wood Green; there will be a lot of hard work ahead but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Chief Inspector Karl Rogers of Haringey Metropolitan Police who has been instrumental in the development of the BID has said:

“This is fantastic news for all Woodgreen businesses and residents of Haringey. The BID now has a 5 year term with new emphasis and financial support to put Woodgreen back on the map again! From a policing perspective, this will strengthen our partnership working and will create new and exciting opportunities to tackle crime and disorder on the high street with the priority of making all visitors feel safe and secure. #futurewoodgreen”
